Pre-Owned Instruments for Beginning Students
B&F Repairs is excited to offer pre-owned instruments for beginning students. We have low-cost instruments with low risk, no interest payment plans available. All instruments are from brands with a reputation for reliability and longevity, and each is repaired to good working order by our techs.
Why buy instead of rent?
Simply put, when you buy the instrument, you own the instrument instead of paying month after month to build equity (at best) or throwing money into the void (at worst). That gives you the flexibility to resell the instrument, hand it down to a younger sibling, loan it to a friend, or run it over with a truck, all without doing any extra paperwork or having to tell us about it. We don’t care - it’s YOUR instrument!
Why buy used instead of new?
New instruments from reliable brands are expensive, and many of the lower-cost brands available do not have a proven reputation for longevity. Pre-owned instruments bridge that gap, matching approachable prices with band-director-approved name brand instruments.
Why buy from B&F?
When you buy an instrument from a repair shop instead of a retail store or online retailer, you know it has been in technician hands, set up appropriately, and is ready to play straight out of the case. Learning a new instrument is hard! And new students can be discouraged quickly if their instrument isn’t working to its full potential. Knowing that the instrument isn’t standing in the way of your student’s progress can offer some peace of mind.
Costs and Payment Options
We offer each of the beginning band instruments (flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone) for $300. $300 pays for the instrument, a case, a mouthpiece, and an included maintenance offer. We offer two payment plans:
Option 1: Payment in full
Payment in full requires payment of the full $300 prior to delivery/pickup of the instrument. When you pay in full, you receive a 10% discount ($30 savings) and a 25% discount on a full cleaning from B&F ($20-30 value), redeemable 6-12 months after date of delivery/pickup.
Option 2: Payment in installments
Payment in installments requires a $100 down payment prior to delivery/pickup of the instrument, with the balance to be paid in four additional $50 payments billed monthly starting 60 days after date of delivery/pickup. This option also includes a free checkup/minimum service ($20 value) following completion of the final payment. Paying in installments offers a low-risk return option, where you may return the instrument at any time prior to the final payment without liability for any payments that have not yet been billed. If you return the instrument in the first 60 days, you are eligible for a pro-rated refund of your initial payment. (Both of these return options are contingent on the instrument being returned in good condition as judged by our technicians.)

Instrument Details
Flute
Flutes purchased from B&F Repairs will most often be one of these reliable brands: Armstrong, Gemeinhardt, Artley, Yamaha, Bundy
The flutes may be nickel plated or silver plated, closed hole, and C-foot, and will come with a case.
All of the flutes will have new or nearly-new pads, key corks, headjoint corks, and be free of any dents that impact function. There may be minor cosmetic dents and there may be plating wear - these are used instruments! But their function is guaranteed.
You can purchase an accessory bundle with your flute. This includes a cleaning rod, cleaning cloth, polishing cloth, soft brush for the lip plate/aperture, and your beginning band book. Clarinet
Clarinets purchased from B&F Repairs will most often be one of these reliable brands: Vito, Bundy, Selmer, Artley, Buffet, Yamaha
The clarinets will have a synthetic/plastic body, most likely nickel plated keys, and will include case, mouthpiece, and ligature.
Each clarinet will have new or nearly-new pads, key corks, tenon corks, and be free of any defects that impact function. There may be minor cosmetic blemishes and there may be plating wear - these are used instruments! But their function is guaranteed.
You can purchase an accessory bundle with your clarinet. This includes a swab, mouthpiece brush, mouthpiece cap, cork grease, and your beginning band book. Trumpet
Trumpets purchased from B&F Repairs will most often be one of these reliable brands: Bach, Yamaha, Bundy, King, Jupiter
The trumpets will have a lacquered brass finish, and will include case and mouthpiece.
Each trumpet will be freshly sonic cleaned with new or nearly-new waterkey corks and alignment felts, and they will be free of any dents that impact function. There may be minor cosmetic dents and there may be lacquer wear - these are used instruments! But their function is guaranteed.

The trombones will have a lacquered brass finish, and will include case and mouthpiece.
